Dr Michelle Tseng Shu Fen

Dr Tseng completed her medical training in 2010 with an intercalated Bachelor of Science degree at Imperial College London, United Kingdom, where she graduated with Distinction in Clinical Practice.

She received her specialist training in Radiation Oncology at National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, where she served as Chief Resident and was a member of the RANZCR Radiation Oncology Trainees Committee (ROTC) and Quality Improvement Committee (QIC).

In 2016, she won a research grant of $10,000 at the NUHS Leadership in Academic Medicine (NLAM) Clinician Scientist Unit for her project on “using a microfluidic 3D tumour culture device as a novel radiosensitivity assay”. In 2018, she was awarded the RANZCR Faculty of Radiation Oncology Bourne and Langlands Prize, which recognised her research excellence and exceptional trainee publication.

She obtained her fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in early 2019 and thereafter underwent training in proton therapy at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital’s Proton and Radiation Therapy Centre in Taipei, Taiwan where she gained valuable insight and experience in treating patients with proton therapy.

Prior to joining AARO, Dr Tseng was Consultant Radiation Oncologist at NUH and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH).

She served as a member of the St Jude’s VIVA Asia Pacific Tumour Board for Paediatric Cancers where she helped to advise on complex treatment decisions for children from regional countries. She was also a part of the International Gynaecological Cancer Society (IGCS) Global Curriculum and was involved in training specialists from Vietnam in gynaecological radiation oncology.

Administratively, Dr Tseng served as the department Patient Safety and Patient Experience Officer where she upheld high patient safety standards and strived to provide a positive patient experience for those who came for cancer treatment. She was also a specialist trainer for the Next Generation Electronic Medical Records (NGEMR) system where she trained the department and ensured a smooth and successful transition.

Dr Tseng’s clinical research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics (IJROBP), International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, British Journal of Surgery and Blood Journal. She has also presented her work at international conferences in Australia and North America. She was also invited to contribute a book chapter in a popular Radiation Oncology textbook “Target Volume Delineation and Field Setup”.

Dr Tseng was actively involved in teaching medical undergraduates at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and radiation therapy students at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). In 2022, she received the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Good Teacher Award.

Presently, Dr Tseng continues to lend her expertise in gynaecological brachytherapy as a Visiting Consultant to NUH and serves as an examiner for the RANZCR Radiation Oncology Specialist examinations for radiation oncology specialist trainees.
