Dr David Teo

Dr Teo is a psychiatrist with over 17 years of clinical experience caring for children, adolescents, and adults. His clinical interests include youth mental health, mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD and autism, occupational mental health, psychosomatic medicine – the psychological aspects of medical illness, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. He adopts a holistic and collaborative approach, seeking to understand each patient’s life experiences, relationships and values to provide personalised care that supports meaningful and lasting recovery. Dr Teo graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore in 2008. He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (United Kingdom) in 2013 and earned his specialist accreditation in Psychiatry in 2016. He is a Fellow of the College of Psychiatrists at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and currently serves as the Secretary of the Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. He also received advanced training in Psychosomatic Medicine (Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry) at New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Centre through the Health Manpower Development Plan Fellowship Award. Additionally, Dr Teo has been trained in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Group Analysis to provide person-centered care. Dr Teo is a passionate educator who holds several teaching positions at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. As a strong advocate for mental wellness, Dr Teo frequently speaks at public forums, schools, and community and religious organizations to promote mental health awareness. Dr Teo is actively involved in research, with numerous publications in international journals and textbooks. He also serves as the Secretary for the World Psychiatric Association’s Psychotherapy Section and the Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists at the Academy of Medicine Singapore. Dr Teo advises on several national mental health committees, contributing to efforts aimed at improving access to quality mental healthcare. Additionally, he volunteers as a member of the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Committee on Fostering.
