Dr Soon Puay Cheow

Dr Soon completed his post basic medical training in Internal Medicine in 1991. In 1994, he  was accepted by Oxford Diabetes Center at Radcliffe Infirmary, UK for clinical fellowship training in Endocrinology for one and half years. In the last six months of his training, Dr Soon completed his project on insulin profile of Glargine in healthy volunteers using 24-hour Euglycaemic Clamps. Dr Soon established and headed the Department of Endocrinology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in 2004 until his departure for private practice in Oct 2008. He was also appointed as examiner of PACES (MRCP part 2), Master of Family Medicine and MBBS. He has served as a member and examiner of the Specialist Training Committee in Endocrinology from 1999 to 2008. He was the Chairman of Medication Safety Committee, TTSH from 2005-2008 and Dy. Chairman of Drug and Therapeutic Committee from 2002-2008. Beside clinical work and teaching, he has been active in Multicenter Clinical Drug Trials for Diabetes and has completed several studies on new drugs for diabetes and hyperlipidemia. During his service in TTSH, he has received many awards, including the NHG Service Champion Award 2002, Star Excellent Service Award (ExSA) 2003, Quality Pillar Award 2004 and Silver ExSA 2006. He was invited to speak on Clinical Pearls in Endocrinology on 13 Nov 2010 at the 1st Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress organised by NHG (National Health Care Group) and NUHS (National University Health System).

Dr. Soon was appointed as an External Examiner of the Internal Medicine Specialist Training Committee for exit examination conducted on 3 Nov 2010. He currently still serves as a short case examiner for Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) Examination.
